PEER CIRCLES AND PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCE –
THE RDT IS THE SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT AND VOICE OF THE PROFESSION
Description:
The College of Dental Technologists of Ontario (CDTO) and the Association of Dental Technologists of Ontario (ADTO) are working in partnership on an innovative peer-facilitated group discussion activity using hypothetical practice relevant cases.
Peer circles provide Registered Dental Technologists (RDTs) with a rewarding opportunity to work together in small groups to address challenging and complex, topical practice issues, and develop enhanced problem-solving approaches and strategies.
Practising RDTs will act as facilitators to guide small groups of practitioners to consider instructive cases or issues that highlight challenging and complex professional and practice issues. Each member of the group will share their perspectives on how they would solve those complex issues.
The College of Dental Hygienists and the College of Denturists run the Peer Circle program that qualify for continuing professional development CPD). Oral health practitioners report that peer circles:
-
Support continuous learning and improvement in a professional’s practice and in a non-traditional way.
-
Provide registrants with an opportunity to interact and consult with colleagues in a way that reduces the impact of professional isolation.
-
Facilitate an open exchange of ideas, improve professional and practice knowledge and allow for learning from more experienced practitioners.
-
Encourage everyone to participate and facilitators ensure that those who have a contribution are given an opportunity to express it.
-
Use case studies that promote discussion of elements related to standards of practice, approaches to treatment and interprofessional communication strategies.
-
Provide registrants with an opportunity to reflect upon issues that arise in their everyday practice and share thoughts about the application of professional and practice standards and guidelines.
Join us Spectrum Day and be a part of the first Peer Circle for Registered Dental Technologists

“Just Build a Digital Workflow,” They Said.
“It’ll Be Great,” They Said…And it Can Be –
If You Know the Whole Story
Description:
In today’s fast-moving digital landscape, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by polished lectures, picture-perfect case photos and marketing messages that make digital workflows look deceptively simple. But the reality for many clinicians and labs if more complicated – and more paralyzing. The fear is making a costly mistake (or worse, making one and not realizing until it’s too late) often leads to inaction. And inaction, as we know, is a decision – with consequences. This session is about cutting through the floss to give you a complete, honest education on building a digital denture workflow – for both fixed and removable solutions. We’ll not only walk through the fundamentals but also highlight the commonly glossed-over nuances and practical realities that can make or break your cases. These are the things that don’t always make it into the pamphlets or podium talks, but they absolutely should.
Bio:
Jennifer graduated George Brown College in 1998, received her RDT designation in 2000 and went on to work in both production and boutique laboratory atmospheres.
She has been a member of the board of the ADTO and opened Belasco Dental Studio in 2004.
She has lectured internationally for Nobel Biocare for both the Nobel Rondo Porcelain System and All-on-X restorative processes.
Currently she is building Rising Tide Dental Lab with Adam McCabe, DD.
When she’s not working she loves hanging with her kids.
