Mechanical Complications of Dental Implants: Causes, Prevention, and Management

AGD Subject Code

690

Course Descripition

Dental implants are a predictable and widely used solution for tooth replacement; however, mechanical complications such as fractures of implant screws, abutments, and implant bodies continue to occur in clinical practice. This lecture provides a practical, clinically focused overview of implant component fractures, emphasizing common causes, biomechanical risk factors, and early diagnostic indicators. Key contributors to mechanical failure—including occlusal forces, prosthetic design, implant positioning, and component selection—are discussed in a way that is directly applicable to everyday practice. Attendees will gain clear strategies for prevention and straightforward approaches for managing fractured components when they arise.
