About the Course
Implant overdenture using locator abutments can improve the quality of life for many completely edentulous patients. However, delivering implant overdenture has its own set of challenges. There are tissue related and implant related factors to consider. The fundamentals of complete dentures still apply to this type of treatment. Common concepts such as determining vertical dimension of occlusion and learning how to find centric relation with confidence will be covered. In addition, a detailed delivery protocol designed by Dr. Leung will be shared to provide a smooth delivery outcome and minimize complications.
Course Objectives
To review treatment options for the Completely Edentulous Patients
To learn the different fabrication and insertion protocol for implant overdentures
To review the basic concepts on VDO and CR
How to evaluate VDO
How to find CR with confidence
To learn how to troubleshoot complications related to implant overdentures
How to ensure the denture does not get locked?
How to ensure the patient can remove the denture easily.
How to troubleshoot to ensure proper engagement if the attachments do not engage at insertion
How to retrieve locked denture
Hands On Activities will be available to simulate various clinical procedures on the delivery and fabricating steps on implant overdentures using locator abutments.
About the Instructor/s

Dr. Beatrice Leung
D.D.S., M.P.H, Cert. Pros., Dip A.B.P., F.A.C.P., F.R.C.D (C).
Dr. Leung received her DDS degree at the University of Toronto. She completed a hospital residency at the Boston Medical Center and a Prosthodontics Residency at the University of Pittsburgh. During that time, she also earned a Master of Public Health degree. Following these programs, she became a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics. She has been in private practice since 2005. Currently she serves as a part time Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto involved in the undergraduate prosthodontic education. She has been named an Honorary Class Member for three years and a recipient of the 2019-2020 Dr. Bruce Hord Master Teacher Award.
